DGfI travel grants

The German Society for Immunology (DGfI) can grant its members (especially PhD students) a single allowance. Main sponsor of the travel grants is the company EUROIMMUN AG, Lübeck (www.euroimmun.de).

Travel grants can be given for the following purposes:

  • To enable the applicant to  attend a scientific event (congress, symposium, colloquium, etc.  – the applicant is required to present a poster or give a talk)
  • To enable the applicant to exchange experiences with scientists from other research institutions
  • To help the applicant finance a foreign laboratory stay which is necessary  to fulfill the scientific goals of the applicant’s research (only travel costs can be subsidized, NOT accommodation or subsistence expenses).

A maximum of two applications can be handed in from one institution (institute, clinic) per year.
ATTENTION: this rule does not apply to applications for the DGfI Annual Meeting. That means that you can apply for travel grants for the DGfI Annual Meeting even if we have already received 2 other applications during that year from your home institution.

Prerequisites for the funding are:

  1. The applicant must have been a member of the DGfI for at least three months at the time of the application
  2. The applicant must give a presentation or present a poster

The DGfI expects that a close connection between the scientific research of the applicant and the topic of the event is given and that the applicant’s scientific results are presented in a talk or a poster.

Attendance of the “Spring School on Immunology”, the Autumn School “Current Concepts in Immunology” or "Translational Immunology School" cannot be supported.

1. Deadlines

Applications for congress visits must be submitted 60 days (date of receipt) prior to the conference. If the acceptance of the abstract is not yet sure at this point in time, the acceptance confirmation must be handed in later. In this case support will be granted with reservations.

Applications for support of a stay in a foreign laboratory must be handed in 60 days prior to the beginning of the trip.

Applications submitted after these deadlines cannot be considered. Original receipts showing the actual costs must be handed in after the trip.

2. Application documents

Please use the application form provided. In addition, we will require the following documents:

  • Statement of reasons why attendance of the event is significant for the progress of one’s work
  • Conference program
  • Abstract
  • List of publications, if available
  • CV
  • Confirmation of the acceptance of an abstract for an oral presentation or a poster presentation (must be handed in later if not available at the time of application)
  • For applications from PhD students: a letter of recommendation from the director of the institution
  • Proof of conference fees
  • Detailed estimate of the expected travel and accommodation costs. Generally, the most inexpensive means of travel and low priced special offers should be chosen.

Applications for the support of travels to foreign laboratories should be handed in informally with an extensive explanation.
